Although summer may be coming to a close, this doesn’t mean the end of fun activities for the whole family. In fact, Autumn is the best time to take in the interesting attractions in and around Inveraray. September’s got festivals and forest fun just a short jaunt away from Brambles.

Autumn Concert and Tours at the Arkinglas Estate

Not very far from Brambles of Inveraray is Arkinglas Estate. The estate’s unforgettable gardens are open year round, and house tours are available.

On September 25th at 3pm, Arkinglas House will be holding an autumn concert. The concert will feature Peter Evans on piano and Philip Higham on cello. They will be performing selections from Rachmaninov, Martinu, Webern and Beethoven.

If you’ find you’ll be at Arkinglas Estate on a Friday, you can enjoy a private House Tour. Ending on September 30, these tours are available on Fridays, and include access to the lovely gardens. Don’t forget that these private House Tours must be booked in advance. All in all, a day at Arkinglas Estate is a day well spent.

Outdoor Adventures at Ardcastle

Just a few kilometres down the coast from Brambles is Ardcastle, a wondrous natural playground of forest roads and paths, many which lead to the shores of Loch Fyne. Ardcastle offers something for everyone; walking trails, cycling paths, activities and more.

Ardcastle offers 3 trail walks, each ranging in length from 1 to 3.5 hours. Cyclists can ride the entire 5.6km circuit which winds through the woods and down to the lochside. The cycling trails can also be explored on horseback, giving nature watchers an incredible opportunity to see sika and roe deer or pine marten. Common seals and elder ducks inhabit the lochside, hunting and feeding to heart’s content.

Kids and adults alike can explore and enjoy all sorts of adventure in Ardcastle. The forest is open year round, so no matter when you visit, you can enjoy Ardcastle’s peace and tranquillity. When you’re done exploring, you can head to Lochgilphead for refreshment and some shopping before heading back up to Brambles.

Best of the West Festival at Inveraray Castle (Second weekend of September)

Inveraray Castle is home to the annual Best of the West festival, otherwise known as Bowfest. This year’s Bowfest took place on 10th and 11th September, so if you’ve missed it, be sure to earmark the festival for the same weekend next year! Brambles is the perfect place to stay so you can enjoy the fun.

Bowfest is a celebration of many things: the end of summer, the coming winter, and local food, drink and music. Suitable for the entire family, Bowfest lasts the weekend and features performances in both English and Gaelic. Offering a lovely mix of young local and established performers, Bowfest truly has something for every musical taste.

But all that dancing requires fuel, which Bowfest offers in plentiful supply. This is the time to try some of the area’s best culinary creations. Bowfest also caters to budding and seasoned chefs, offering both cookery demonstrations and master classes. Inveraray Castle’s seated theatre is be the site of demonstrations by celebrity chefs who prepare their signature, mouth-watering dishes for eager audiences.

All of this delicious local cuisine wouldn’t be complete without fine drink to go with it. Our own Loch Fyne Whisky Shop is an annual Bowfest participant, offering all of its fine west coast malt alongside the Bowfest Whisky Stage.

The kids will love the workshops, bouncy castles, climbing walls and face painting. For parents, the Bowfest Business Gateway showcases the area’s most talented artists and craftspeople.
